Mandatory RCCB Installation Begins July 1, 2025
Starting July 1, 2025, all residential units in Singapore — both HDB flats and private housing — must have Residual Current Circuit Breakers (RCCBs) installed. This rule applies to homes built before July 1, 1985, which may not have RCCBs as part of their original electrical setup.
According to the Energy Market Authority (EMA), RCCBs protect against electric shocks and reduce the risk of electrical fires. When a leakage of electric current is detected, the RCCB quickly shuts off the power.
This update is part of Singapore’s ongoing efforts to improve home electrical safety for all residents.
Installer Safety Must Come First
With increased demand for RCCB installations, electrical workers will be at the forefront of this national safety initiative. But while protecting households, it’s just as crucial to protect the protectors — the electricians.
Working directly with electrical circuits exposes installers to serious risks, including electric shock, arc flash, and burn injuries. Therefore, every electrical installer must wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during installation work.
